My mom's birthday is this weekend, so I made her some mini chocolate doughnuts! I usually make her cupcakes, but I thought it would be good to mix it up this time and bring some doughnuts home as a surprise! She's going to open up the box and be like, "Thanks for the cupca-- DOUGHNUTS??"
I mean, if someone made me doughnuts for my birthday, they would obviously burn themselves a place in my heart for life. Though, I hopefully did that at birth for her. These are just in case I didn't.
I used the recipe from Chloe's Vegan Desserts that I have had bookmarked for a while now. They are basically just cake with extra baking soda. Some came out too puffy and over risen, and more like little cakes than donuts, but about half of them came out cute enough to serve. I think only one of them was actually the right size. But damn, is it cute.
From the beginning, I knew it was gonna be chocolate with sprinkles. I mean, that's the quintessential doughnut. I thought about doing crushed peanuts or chocolate chips, but couldn't resist doing all sprinkles, and rainbow at that. We are all children when we eat doughnuts.
Happy Birthday Mom!
